Army Benevolent Fund - The Soldiers' Charity - since being founded in 1944 as the Army Benevolent Fund, they have provided a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their families. Although they changed their name in 2010 to ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity, their vision remains exactly the same: "That all soldiers, veterans and their immediate families should have the opportunity to avoid hardship and enjoy independence and dignity."  The Soldiers' Charity gives lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk so much for us, but for them, it's just doing their job. In return, the charity provides financial assistance for serving soldiers and ex-soldiers when they are in real need. That's what they've been doing since 1944. They have seen a 30% rise over the recent past in applications from soldiers who have taken part in previous and current conflicts and currently raise £7 million a year to meet this need. As a result of current operations, it is anticipated that the requests for assistance will rise significantly in the coming years. Expat Mentors is a coaching, counselling and wellbeing resource for those moving overseas for the first time and / or living, working, retiring abroad. It is run by Lynda Brettle, a former member of the British Diplomatic Service who settled in Spain in 2003 after 20 years of diverse overseas postings - she has vast expatriate experience both as a single girl and also as a wife and mother holding down a career. SAT Animal Rescue - 'Sociedad Protectora para Animales de Torrevieja' (or S.A.T) is a registered charity whose aim is to alleviate the local stray and abandoned dog problem. It was formed in 1992 by likeminded people and became registered in Valencia as Charity no: 3463. It is also registered with Torrevieja Town hall. S.A.T was founded in 1992 by a group of people of all nationalities who saw the
need for a sanctuary for the abandoned dogs that roamed the streets of
Torrevieja. Today, with its kennels at Dolores which can home up to 70 dogs, it
is still a multi-national organisation and a registered charity with the
Valencian Community.
We have a huge amount of volunteers who do just about anything to make the stay of our 'guests' at Dolores a happy one. Dog walkers, shop workers, fundraisers and general all round helpers all help to ensure that the SAT Animal Rescue runs smoothly. The SAT animal rescue can always do with more help though and volunteers are always needed, but especially to help in our SAT shop at Guardamar, at the Sunday sales at San Luis and San Miguel, and to fundraise, as these are our only sources of income, this side of SAT is all important. If you can help in any way please contact the kennels on (0034) 966 710 047 and they will put you in touch with the right person. Remember though, there is an answer machine so please follow the instructions on the message should the kennel staff be elsewhere working and not answering the phone at that time. The SAT animal rescue centre at Dolores only caters for dogs but SAT also helps other animals when
necessary. We work closely with other charities and individuals dealing with
many different types of animals so although we cannot house them we can advise as required.
SSAFA - The Armed Forces Charity - what we do - we've been serving the Armed Forces community for over 130 years and our experience has helped us understand the unique demands of service life. Veterans Gateway - the first point of contact for veterans seeking support. There is a huge network of organisations supporting the Armed Forces community, so finding the right one for your needs can be tricky. We make it quick and easy by being your first point of contact for whatever support you need, whether you are based in the UK or abroad. 
Many of our team are veterans themselves so they understand the issues that people face after leaving the Armed Forces. They work with people on a one-to-one basis, connecting them with the right support as soon as possible. The website for the Veterans Gateway is Veterans Gateway
Veterans' Lifeline - because not all wounds are visible! A little bit more about the man behind veterans lifeline. Nick Perry, a former Army Warrant Officer and Liverpool Lad who returned home. The plight of the local Veterans (with no diagnosed medical issues so not on the radar of other military charities) led him to take action in line with his experience as a Personal Recovery Officer (dealing with Wounded Injured and Sick service personnel) and the knowledge of his 25 year military career as well as experiences gained from operating in hostile environments like Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Nick was also the House Sergeant Major of Tedworth House towards the end of his military career (H4H HQ and recovery centre in Wiltshire), so he understands how the charity's operate and he has also worked with our hardest hit serving personnel, indeed he was personally in charge of the recovery pathway of the worse case of PTSD the British Army had ever seen. For Nick it's very simple, He hates to see people struggle in general but the
truth is we live in a very hard world that can if you are not careful and
probably when you least expect it, chew you up and spit you out (this world has
no boundaries on who it can creep up on and spin their world upside down, you
may have left service as a private or a Colonel in the SAS, everyone at times
needs a little support some more than others), and trust us if this world turns
on you and brings you to your knees then I guarantee you would want someone like
Nick by your side. Nick absolutely hates on a very personal level to see a
veteran brought to his or her knees because of lots of different reasons and the
thought of a struggling veteran committing suicide when We know he or she really
doesn't need to is an absolute killer for us (this is not a romantic notion for
us, this is real life) and believe it or not We always try our best not to get
overly involved emotionally. Veterans’ Lifeline takes a different approach, quite holistic. They don't stand by the fast-flowing stream, fishing struggling veterans out then helping them (like many other charities). Instead, where possible, they move upstream to see why they are falling in and try to prevent it. The HARDFACTS model is used to identify the underlying problems and we try not to get to focused on the symptoms of the underlying problem (we won't just fix the symptom and then walk away, of course the symptom will be dealt with but concurrently we look to fix the cause): Health, Accommodation, Relocation, Drugs/Alcohol, Finances, Attitude, Children/Family, Training/Employment, Supporting Agencies. Each is tackled and if there’s an issue solutions are sought with the Veteran. Complex issues, broken down one by one to achieve an achievable and lasting solution for the struggling veteran. Veterans' lifeline is a fully registered charity. The Veterans’ Lifeline working day starts at 6am, and usually finishes somewhere around 1.30am. We support tri-service veterans; it doesn’t matter which Regiment/Corps/Service the individual served in: If you are a Veteran who needs help, Veterans’ Lifeline will do its best to support in any way it can. Veterans’ Lifeline is a Registered Charity to ensure accountability to the Charity Commission. Unlike other ways of organising large-scale monetary donations (Non-profit organisations for example) it’s impossible to use the money given for anything other than the uses agreed in the constitution (and approved by the Charity Commission). If anyone tried to take money out of the charity for anything not agreed the charitable status could be lost (and they’d have Nick to deal with!).
